Introduction to Photography

The main purpose of this course is to provide students with knowledge of handling, understanding and controlling the camera and all its' elements. As well as encouraging reflection on the creation of photographic images using the balance between aesthetics and technique, through knowledge of other authors, dialogue and exchange of ideas.

We will strengthen observation skills and expand the range of inspiration through everyday life, cinema and animation. Throughout this course, with a theoretical and practical scope, exercises are proposed that aim to consolidate the knowledge acquired and explore each person's aesthetic sense.

At the end of the course, all participants will understand how to use their camera in manual mode and be on a path of aesthetic self-knowledge.

Contents:
- ⁠The photographic camera: understanding how it works;
- The correct exposure of a photograph: understanding the relationship between ISO, aperture and speed;
- ⁠Dominance of light in image capture;
- Control and understanding of colour temperature and communication through colour;
- Composition of a photographic image, framing techniques and aesthetics;
- ⁠The different types of lenses and what each will suit best;
- The digital image and post-processing options;
- ⁠Equipment and accessories: cameras, lenses, filters and tripods;
- ⁠Different photographic aspects, such as photography in the urban space, nature, portrait, conceptual/author;
- The civic use of photography and the communication of a message through our aesthetic choices;
- What is the best use online of our images: portfolio vs social networks. 

Requirements:
No prior knowledge / Minimal knowledge. It is necessary to bring a digital camera with manual function to the classes.

Practical Components:
All concepts will be applied in practical classes either in the classroom or outdoors within Alvalade.

Schedule
The classes last 2 hours and take place every Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00.

OBSERVATIONS
If you do not yet have a camera, please consult the teacher beforehand. The class will not exceed a maximum of 10 students.
The course will start on the scheduled date if the number of registrations allows it.
